Children's Offerings

Pilgrim Church School is deeply rooted in the greater mission of Pilgrim Church UCC. We provide a welcoming home for children, parents, and volunteers looking to continue their faith journey. Striving to put faith in action, we work hard to explain faith through hands-on learning and mission opportunities for all ages. As our world and community are constantly evolving, Pilgrim Church School is always exploring new and innovative ways to truly teach God’s word.

Pre-K – Grade 4: ACTIVATE FAITH

Pilgrim Church School continues to explore the most innovative ways to bring faith to life for our students. The Spark: Activate Faith curriculum uses a dynamic set of workshops to explore multiple Bible lessons throughout the year. Each month we begin with a different story that children will learn about for three consecutive weeks. When the month ends, students have had the opportunity to explore the story in video, science and art workshops. This format allows our multitude of learners to truly grasp the meaning and gain a new understanding of traditional Bible stories.

Grades 5 – 7: MISSION KIDS

We are very excited to launch Mission Kids: Tomorrow’s Leaders Making a Difference Today! Mission kids is a program designed for upper elementary and middle school youth to put their faith in action. Each month the group will focus on a population or organization in need of their help. They will use the lessons explored in the Bible to create a plan of action to help members of their community. The group will enjoy fellowship time as well as Bible exploration while refining their leadership skills to create strong members of both our church and the community as a whole. Topics include hunger, children in need, helping elders in the community and much more.

Older children (grades 8-12) participate in Confirmation and/or our Youth Group.

Opportunities for Adults in Church School

Adult volunteers are vital to the life and ministry of the Church School. We invite you to express your ideas and concerns, as this helps us improve the experience for our children. There are also many ways you can help:

All Church Education Sundays

Pilgrim Church strives to offer programming to students of all ages. All Church Education Sundays is an opportunity for children and adults to dig deep in to the meaning of the UCC and some of the key thems of our Progressive Christian faith.  The first Sunday of the month begins at 9:30 AM with education opportunities for all. Rev. Lauren leads an adult study that explores theology and themes of the United Church of Christ. The Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministries offers a time for children that runs simultaneously, echoing the lessons of the adult class. At 10:30 AM we all join in worship together as one communal body of Christ.

For infants and children through age three, we offer nursery care with our Nursery Care Provider, Karen Hurley. The nursery is available fifteen minutes before the service each week, and silent pagers are given to parents so they may be notified if their child is in need. We also offer a family area...

The Confirmation class meets every other year and is open to 8th, 9th, and 10th grade students. The program is led by the Pastor and Youth and Christian Education Director. We follow the UCC Confirmation Curriculum, Affirming Faith, and meet at least twice a month to learn and grow together, building strong relationships as we experience what it means to be Christians in community.

For our students that have been confirmed in past years, we offer a monthly meeting time to bond in fellowship outside of worship. These meetings are fellowship based to meet the needs of today’s youth. High school is often stressful and confusing.  Our youth group offers a safe haven to discuss difficult topics and experience new adventures with friends.
