Organ
The organ
at Pilgrim Church is one of historical significance and an excellent example
of the late nineteenth-century tonal palate indicative of the Hook & Hastings
Organ Company. The current organ, Hook & Hastings opus 1751, was built in
the year 1897. It was installed at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church in Webster,
MA, where it remained until 1971. Upon relocation of the Webster church, the
lack of provision for an organ in its new edifice caused reason for its subsequent
uprooting.
Having purchased the instrument from the Organ Clearing House, the Andover Organ Company removed the instrument and placed it into storage. One year later, a contract was made between Pilgrim Church and the Andover Organ Company to purchase, rebuild, and install the instrument. Its installation was completed in May of 1973. The organ has two manuals and pedal with sixteen stops and 19 ranks of pipes, roughly 1,028 pipes in total.
The sanctuary at Pilgrim Church is well-renowned for its splendid acoustics. The organ and the room fit together beautifully, with seconds to spare! In May 2003, the church will celebrate the thirty year anniversary of the organ's installation and many years of service.

It's been a year of transitions, of beginnings and endings, but I sense excitement and hope when we're together on Sunday mornings and when we perform the business of the church as the body of Christ.
