"ROOM AT THE TABLE" HONORED
In January, 2007, "Room at the Table" was selected as one of the town of Lexington's "Ten Unsung Heroes of 2006" for our creative and inclusive efforts at addressing the needs of the world and providing opportunities for people to make a difference.
Room at the Table is a multi-faith, multi-cultural community of caring individuals whose common purpose is to serve others by:
- increasing awareness in our communities about people in need locally, nationally, and globally
- mobilizing people of all ages to reach out a helping hand
- raising money through serving simple meals

HOW DOES "ROOM AT THE TABLE" OPERATE?
Two or three times a year, the "Room at the Table" coalition gathers in support of a trouble spot or needy institution. We create a simple meal that reflects the culture we are spotlighting and serve it in the Fellowship Hall of Pilgrim UCC, Lexington. People from near and far come to enjoy the meal and presentations - posters, slides or videos, cultural demonstrations, talks, crafts. They donate what they might spend for a meal in a restaurant. Less than 10% is retained as seed money for the next event.
Volunteers shop, cook, do publicity, set-up and take down, and act as hosts for the event. We have raised money for the following causes:
- Tsunami emergency relief
- AIDS orphans in Zimbabwe
- Pakistan earthquake relief
- Tsunami housing
- New Orleans hurricane relief
- The North American Indian Center of Boston
- Jhamtse International's Gatsal School in North East India
- Women of Means, Inc.
- Myanmar (Burma), cyclone relief
- Honduras clean water for Flores
- Ghana, The Pagus Africa Airfield School

FROM OUR PASTOR
As our Annual Meeting approaches, and I reflected on the various things we've done together in my Pastor's Report, I feel excited. We've had a great year so far. It's been a year of transitions, of beginnings and endings, but I sense excitement and hope when we're together on Sunday mornings and when we perform the business of the church as the body of Christ.
