Tar Creek, OK

This area is the site of the largest lead and zinc mining operation in U.S. History, resulting in surface and groundwater contamination which has caused high lead levels in the blood of area children. Stories written by children telling how their lives have been affected by the toxins have been compiled and published in a book form. The cost of publishing these books was provided by a $3,000 allotment from the Mission component of the Capital Campaign (Foundation for the Future). Other support in the form of donations of new and used books, special offerings.

"Letting our Souls Catch Up with our Bodies" (Mark 1:29-39)

There was once an American traveler who planned a safari to Africa. He was that typical Type-A American tourist, who many of us may be and who I admittedly am when I travel. We do our research about this travel destination and we have a timetable, maps, and a clear agenda of the things we need to see and do. Some local people had even been hired to carry some of the traveler's supplies as they trekked throughout the land—it was that level of planning.

As our Annual Meeting approaches, and I reflected on the various things we've done together in my Pastor's Report, I feel excited. We've had a great year so far. It's been a year of transitions, of beginnings and endings, but I sense excitement and hope when we're together on Sunday mornings and when we perform the business of the church as the body of Christ.
