Church School

The church school offers age appropriate activities for grades preschool through high school. We use the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum for children in grades 5 and under. Middle and High school youth explore the Bible and what it means for them in today’s world. They explore issues of justice and peace as it pertains to their everyday lives.

Children in second and third grade start their year with a communion curriculum designed to help them understand what communion is and why we participate in this sacrament. On the first Sunday in October, World Communion Sunday, they will join the older youth in the worship service to celebrate communion.

In addition to the curriculum used for classroom learning, the children are offered many hands-on opportunities for learning through mission and outreach. Children learn about stewardship and mission by supporting a number of programs locally and globally through their church school offerings.

Involvement in Church Life

Children are a vital part of the ministry of the church. Their participation in the full life of the Church makes our community alive and fresh. Children are always welcome and encouraged to express their faith by serving along with adult members in many service projects, special events, and activities as well as participating in the service of worship.

Music plays an important part in our children’s expression of faith. Young children sing for the congregation throughout the church year. Children and youth are often invited to play instruments or sing with the choir on special occasions.

Every year, we formally celebrate our Children’s Ministry with a Children’s Sunday Service. This is an opportunity for children and youth to lead the worship service for the congregation.

Opportunities for Adult Involvement in Children's Ministries

Adult volunteers are vital to the life of the church school. We invite you to express your ideas and concerns, as this helps us improve the experience for our children. Ways you can help:

  • As teachers or assistants (semester-long commitment)
  • Serving on the Educational Ministries Committee
  • As a PYF leader or assistant
  • Hosting the Time for Children
  • Preparing food for special occasions
  • Sharing music, art or other talents

Church School Schedule

Church school meets during the worship service from September through June. The first Sunday of the month is Communion Sunday when children begin their morning downstairs. On these Sundays, teachers will escort children in grades two through eight into the sanctuary after the sermon so they may participate in communion. All other Sundays, children will begin in the sanctuary with their families and leave with teachers directly after the Time for Children.

Children are always welcome to spend the entire time in the worship service with their parents.
