"We honor the Biblical call to love one another as God first loved us. We welcome into the full life and ministry of the church all people of any race, nationality, religious background, educational background, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, economic status, and physical, mental, and emotional abilities."
The following statement was voted by congregational process to be included in Article IV of the bylaws of Pilgrim Congregational Church, UCC:
"We honor the Biblical call to love one another as God first loved us. We welcome into the full life and ministry of the church all people of any race, nationality, religious background, educational background, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, economic status, and physical, mental, and emotional abilities."
Therefore, we members of Pilgrim Congregational Church, UCC, declare ourselves to be a welcoming, open and affirming church, in response to the call of the United Church of Christ on July 2nd, 1985, and in the leading of the Holy Spirit on this day, November 24th, 2002.
As an ONA church, Pilgrim supports the UCC Coalition for LGBT Concerns with funds from the Mission committee's budget. This is officially recognized by the United Church of Christ as a related, self-created organization whose mission is to promote social justice and civil rights for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. FROM OUR PASTOR
As our Annual Meeting approaches, and I reflected on the various things we've done together in my Pastor's Report, I feel excited. We've had a great year so far. It's been a year of transitions, of beginnings and endings, but I sense excitement and hope when we're together on Sunday mornings and when we perform the business of the church as the body of Christ.
